Michigan does not get all the attention that the Western states, Patagonia or New Zealand get. However, Michigan is a great state for sportsman both looking for hunting and fishing opportunities.
This fall I was lucky enough to hit some of the prime blue ribbon streams across Michigan. We hit it during the peak of the King Salmon run as the brown’s were just starting to spawn.
We tore up the Kings and the browns. I also landed more Rainbows than I could count with the largest going 18 inches. The best part was my fly fishing companions, they were top notch and a class act. I can hardly wait to go back and experience another great time with everyone sharing the same passion for the great sport of fly fishing. The Steelhead were not running yet but that is just another reason to go back.
Before my trip I picked up a Scott S3s 9ft 9 weight rod. I picked this rod as a choice for Salmon/Steelhead fishing as well as going salt water fishing. I love this rod! It’s a little soft in the tip for chuck and duck but for sure has enough backbone to handle even the biggest strongest kings. I set it up with a Galvan Rush Large Arbor Reel and could not be any more pleased with the setup.
